I think its fine to have experiences that our unexplainable in the larger scheme of life. Yet it's the details that gives believers something to believe and denouncers go frightened at the possibility. And sometimes both sides find themselves sitting down together. We just have to look beyond materialism and superstition. I'll share my one experience with the supposedly "paranormal" that happened in my childhood.
Around the age of 8 to the time of my late preteens I would stay at my grandmother's house for a few days a month. The house was nearly hundred years old and situated along a row of other older suburban homes. Due to extensive remodeling both in the main level and outside you really wouldn't know it's age, but go down to the basement and it showed its age.
My step-grandfather (SG) had originally bought the house upon marrying my grandmother before I was even around. Now apparently he was injured at work. Already in poor health and no longer young his health went downhill quickly and in a little while he was found dead in the one of two bedrooms. My grandmother continued living in the old house until my late preteens.
Whenever I stayed over at her house for a day or more I would sleep in the same room that my SG had died in. I had heard grandmother's stories about her dead husband supposedly visiting her in the night before though I don't know whether or not to believe them. So when it was time to go to bed I wasn't even thinking about her stories.
And it happened. A distinct sound of someone walking about the livingroom and basement. I swore it sounded just like footsteps and felt afraid. Afraid of the unknown. It was the sound of movement on the old polished floor.
The basement was really creepy as it sounded like someone or something was moving around for sure. maybe it really was the ghost of my late SG or maybe not. I didn't know what was producing the sound. My grandmother confidently said that it was SG making the nightly rounds. How could a ghost be heavy enough to cause the floor to make noise?
So almost every other night I would hear the ghostly footsteps again. Not knowing or remembering my SG very well in life I didn't know whether or not he'd want to come back to haunt his old house. Other family members stayed overnight and said they also heard creepy noises of someone walking around.
In Fringe-ology, Volk tries to make point towards the end that we don't necessarily need to outright believe or disbelieve in the paranormal. We should simply leave area open that allows for such discussion. I simply could not explain the cause of the mysterious sound in my grandmother's house. Thats all. It was an unexplained happening.
