Its nice to know the US isn't the only world leader in stupidity.
Honestly, I've always thought GMO labeling rather pointless as theres always going to be people who don't care about their food. No matter what country you live in the trend of western colonization of the food supply continues unabated. Perhaps Americans are still one of the worst when it comes to low-quality food as we're addicted to convenience and cheapness.
The rest of the article goes on to say that in some other countries consumers are actually more likely to pay a premium for transgenic food (GMOs). Thats probably due to a lack of awareness compared to US consumers. Consumers that aren't aware of the GMO issue might believe transgenic food to be better than non-transgenic.
The propaganda surrounding GMOs is really a hoax. There not going to save the world from starvation or increase yields. In fact, GMOs have done the exact opposite by creating superweeds in the midwestern US and requiring higher levels of pesticides. Most so-called studies on GMOs are done by the Biotech Industry thus bias towards a positive outcome despite the fact that industry studies are too short to show a real world affect. Really the whole GMO industry is based on a scientific mythology of "one gene=one protein" when science has shown that to be false. Theres far more to plants than a simple gene including the microbial ecosystem and secondary metabolites it uses to protect the plant.

Will the Ag spinners quit saying its the US job to "feed the world"? The US can't feed itself. Why else are their 50 million Americans on food stamps? Theres not a lack of food in the US, people are too low-income to afford the food they need.
