Perhaps its the same old sorry story as the other industries beginning around end of WWll. In those days consumer culture was growing its first legs with rise of mass goods and people were enamored by the latest. Natural was thrown aside and became something to be despised in the race for development. Sure, it brought benefits to remake world in industrial image, but came at an often ignored price. Artificial may "save lives" though natural keeps the problem from ever developing in first place. And society has skewered the balance so far that the inherited defects of industrial are viewed as acceptable and normal. A headache is a small matter to be expected and profited by way of artificially-created pills. No longer do the masses question the real cause of their headache. In a world thats almost a reflected material headache we find ourselves stuck and numb.
The food system is born of this mindset of an expected headache. One sees the cheap store sign and doesn't realzie the cause of their single-minded choice. They expect all "food" is the same. Anyone saying elsewise is labeled a loon. Even pretending it doesn't exist is so alien to them they see only the upfront price.

How do you afford wholesome quality food? Well, I may not be rich either. Really its about planning, prioritizing, and creativity. The Wal-Mart obession of so many people misses the fact that its not a store for "poor people", its a store for those who wish to conform by filling their personal space with low-quality made-in-China junk.
- I f you can't afford apples then don't buy the cans of soda. Health should be a priority.
- Years ago junkfood (sugar-laden) was considered a luxury item. That idea needs to be reinstated.
- Junkfood is a waste of money because its empty calories without nutrients. Nutrients are what fills you up not cheap calorie empty calories.
- When thinking of cost of food you should look beyond initial pricetag at the environmental and economical cost.
- The taxpayer-subsidized agribusiness holds a monopoly over the food system causing low-nutrient junkfood to be cheaper than wholesome foods.
- This monopoly has led to the public acceptance of crap pseudo-food. (Leaving low-income people with no other choices)
- The connection between food and health are very important though its still not widely known. Mainstream nutrition puts all the emphasis on calories instead of nutrients (orthomolecular medicine is still suppressed).
- There are healthier alternatives to soda, crackers, cookies, white bread... why not cook at home? Sparkling water or kombucha can be used in place of soda. Dried fruit instead of cookies.
