Actually, what skeptics seem to defend is "scientism", which is a term first coined by Feyerabend who explained that scientism is the belief that only science gives meaningful answers. Scientism is what pseudoskeptics espouse as the only truth. However, science itself tends to be rampant with fraud. An article here exposes much of the false research results of modern medical science. This is probably old news to those of us in the alternative health community where we have always known that Big Pharma regularly manipulates, distorts, throws away, and suppresses study results that it doesn't like. I particularly find the one heading by Ioannidis as relevant in that it says research findings may be just measures of the prevailing bias.
Now that statement is relevant to the way other areas are researched and viewed by the scientific establishment and public as a whole. Parapsychology tends to be ignored and dismissed by the current paradigm because of their bias against anything that can't be empirically proven. Alternative medicine is often suppressed and ignored by the medical establishment cause it doesn't conform to the current definition of "medicine".
Bias can be expressed by anyone, even supposedly secular rationalists.
